Penny Harvest Tackles Turtle Needs in Central Park
Jordan’s face lit up with excitement as the bright red lid came off the plastic container housing the first of many turtles that he and his fellow Philanthropy Roundtable members would be seeing that day. Lorie Cramer, a member of the New York Turtle and Tortoise Society, was sharing some of her rehabilitated turtles in an interactive presentation at The Computer School in Manhattan.

What's New at Common Cents and the Penny Harvest
Registration for the 08/09 Florida Penny Harvest is now open! To register, download a form (PDF) and fax a copy to 850-922-2928.

Students in Polk County had a successful Penny Harvest collecting $3,840 to support service-learning and student philanthropy programming to benefit their local community. They were recently featured on Bay News 9, click here for their story.  Additionally,  thank you to Mid-Florida Federal Credit Union for counting the coins and matching the student's harvest total by donating an additional $3,840 to the Polk County School District.

Judith Shapiro joins Common Cents as Board Chair

Common Cents is pleased to announce that Judith Shapiro, President of Barnard College, has accepted the position of chair of the Board of Trustees of Common Cents, effective immediately.

Common Cents wins NY1's New Yorker of the Year Award

December 31, 2007
This year, New York 1 News chose Common Cents as the winner of the New Yorker of the Year award. Common Cents was selected for the honor because of its longstanding commitment to New York City youth, and the work done through the Penny Harvest to teach elementary and middle school students the value of giving back and good citizenship.

SEPTEMBER
Hundreds of schools enroll in the Penny Harvest, and student leaders start planning to make this year the best yet.
