WORKPLACE HARVEST
Work It!
 

Host a Penny Harvest at your place of work!

This is a great opportunity to work with your child and support his/her involvement in the community. All of the money that you raise goes to charity and student-led service projects.

Use the following checklist to help you work with your child to run a successful Penny Harvest at your office.
 
1.  Prepare with Your Child
  • Write a letter to your co-workers to inform them about the Penny Harvest and how it benefits children like yours.
  • Find and decorate penny holders. We recommend that you find and decorate at least two containers: one to place at your desk or workstation and one to place at the front door, reception area.

2.  Prepare at Work
  • Check with your boss or the office manager to make sure it is okay with them to run the Penny Harvest.
  • Distribute hard copies or email the letters you wrote with your child to your coworkers.
  • Place your penny collection containers in “high-traffic” areas of your place of work.
  • Make your own Penny Harvest poster and put it up near at least one of the penny collection containers. Also, post the letter that you wrote with your child near the penny collection containers so your co-workers can learn more about the Penny Harvest.

3. Now Harvest!
  • Send reminders to your coworkers throughout the Harvest.
  • Half-way through the harvest, announce how many containers your workplace has filled and set a goal for the remainder of the harvest.
  • Designate one day as “Take Your Pennies To Work Day.” Rally the whole office around bringing in pennies on that day.

4. After the Harvest
  • Now that you have finished the Harvest: decide how you will get your pennies to the school. You can either send them with your child in a few trips (if they are not too heavy) or contact the teacher to arrange a time to drop them off. Check with your workplace, they may be willing to reimburse you for a car service!
  • If you bring the harvest home, you and your child can play some fun (and educational) penny games.
  • Ask the Penny Harvest Coach at your child’s school what day they plan to have an “Honor Rally” or other assembly for the Penny Harvest. See if you can attend and present your pennies to the school on behalf of your company or organization.
