HAITI EARTHQUAKE RELIEF

The incredible earthquake that shook Haiti on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 4:53pm was the strongest the country had experienced in over 200 years. We were all saddened to see the huge amount of damage it has done to the island and the people. We know during natural disaster such as these that we must come together as one community to make a great impact.

We are committed to providing our students with meaningful opportunities to give back and make a lasting impact. We invite all roundtables to come together by pledging a portion* of their Penny Harvest funds to the Global Relief Fund: Haiti Rebuilding and Recovery. The Global Relief Fund will be our first-ever Nationwide Philanthropy Roundtable, amassed and allocated by Penny Harvest schools from across the country.

Join Penny Harvest schools around the nation!  Pledge a portion of Roundtable funds to participate in the first-ever Nationwide Philanthropy Roundtable to allocate the Global Relief Fund.  Click here for details.

Global Relief Fund Timeline:

  • *Last day to pledge a portion of the Roundtable funds: April 9th
  • Voting Week to select organizations: April 19rd-23th
  • Collective totals per organization announced: May 1st

For more details click here

*When completing the Yearlong Report, fill out a Form B for your pledge.  Include the pledge amount, list "Global Relief Fund" under 'check payable to' and answer question #7 for the grant description.

To act now:

  • Host a fundraiser to donate immediately - due to the time it takes to count every school's collection, Roundtable funds will not be availabe until April.

BIG PROBLEM. THINK BIG.
Think BIG during the roundtable - student resource packet

Become an Expert: Learn about disaster relief, Haiti and the specific issues related to the earthquake.

Investigate Who Cares: Discuss profiles of 3-5 organizations (local and national), their missions and opportunities for service projects.

Get Involved and Take Action: Roundtables that pledge a portion* of their funds will cast their ballots during voting week April 19th-23rd to select the organizations of their choice.

*We recommend that roundtables pledge no more than 10% of their funds. This allows them to make a meaningful contribution and does not ignore all of the local needs in our communities.
