DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Job Overview
Common Cents, a national not-for-profit educational organization, seeks a Director of Development, for immediate hire, to facilitate the creation and production of all fundraising campaigns, including design and implementation of the corporate and foundation giving strategy, coordinate special events, and major gift campaigns. The Director of Development will be responsible for building a diverse funding base and a national constituency of committed supporters. S/he will report to the Executive Director and work closely with the Board of Trustees to create and execute the organization’s development strategies.

Organization Overview
Common Cents creates and implements educational programs to nurture a new generation of caring and capable young people through philanthropy and service-learning. Our most popular program, the Penny Harvest, grew from one child’s desire to feed a homeless man, and for the past 19 years, children between the ages of four and 14 have been converting their natural compassion for others into action by collecting pennies and turning those pennies into grants for community organizations and service projects- $8.1 million in grants and service donated by children since 1991. As children help others, they develop their generosity and moral character, and learn through practice the skills and responsibilities of democratic participation. All the pennies collected by students are distributed by the students to non-profits that they choose -- the small operating budget of $1.5 million is 100% funded by donations from corporations, foundations, individuals, and government sources. As Common Cents prepares for its twentieth year, it seeks a Director of Development who can support our sustainability moving forward.
