My name is Jeremiah Nunez, I am currently a senior at University Heights High School (UHHS) and I also serve as a Penny Harvest Student Leader at my school. I have been participating in the Penny Harvest for three years now thanks to the guidance counselor at UHHS, Joan Fox. The Penny Harvest has inspired me to work on a Community Organizing project through my internship at Common Cents. Being that it is my last year in high school I really wanted to leave an impact on the UHHS community by partnering with neighboring Penny Harvest schools to ensure that the Penny Harvest continues to thrive and benefit the students in that area. Working with local schools would be a great opportunity for us to make a significant and positive change in our community. It would also, be a great way to build a strong support and networking system where we can help each other by sharing ideas, and working on projects together to ensure a successful Penny Harvest.
Participating in the Penny Harvest has helped me develop my leadership and communication skills. In addition, the Penny Harvest has also helped me understand the importance of philanthropy. My experience with the program has inspired me to want to give back to my community, which is why I got the idea to create the Community Organizing project I am currently doing through my partnership with Common Cents. One thing I really appreciate about the Penney Harvest is that people can still make a big change with the small change (money) they have. Thank You Penny Harvest for having a great influence on my life!
